/dev/disk/dsknp

n is the disk number
p is the partition

/dev/dsk/cCtTdD[sS]

C is the controller
T is the target
D is the hardware device unit number
S is the section number

Tape Device File Naming Conventions /dev/[n]tape/tapea_dx

n indicates norewind
a is the tape drive number
d_x is the tape drive density suffix

/dev/[r]mt/T[options]
/dev/[r]mt/cCtTdD[Toptions]

r indicates a raw device
C is the controller
T is the target
D is the hardware device unit number
options include any of the following:
  BEST sets the best known options
  h indicates high density
  m indicates medium density
  l indicates low density
  c sets best known options including compression
  n indicates norewind
  b indicates Berkeley-style access format for reads
