vdump on a file system with over 100K files fails with "Not enough memory to generate link table".

This Engineering Advisory has been updated to announce a fix that resolves the problem. The previous Engineering Advisory revision provided a workaround.

Target Audience - Customers who use vdump to backup large file sets greater than 100,000 inodes.
The following supported HP Tru64 UNIX version is affected:



Due to increased memory requirements during backup oflargefilesets(>100,000 inodes), the default ulimit -d value of 128MB may not be sufficient.

To overcome this problem, customers should install the following Early Release Patch Kit:
