 Advisory Information

RELEASE DATE: 17 December 2004

DESCRIPTION
vdump on a file system with over 100K files fails with "Not enough memory to generate link table".

This Engineering Advisory has been updated to announce a fix that resolves the problem. The previous Engineering Advisory revision provided a workaround.

Target Audience - Customers who use vdump to backup large file sets greater than 100,000 inodes.

SCOPE
The following supported HP Tru64 UNIX version is affected:

     5.1B-2

RESOLUTION

Due to increased memory requirements during backup oflargefilesets(>100,000 inodes), the default ulimit -d value of 128MB may not be sufficient.

To overcome this problem, customers should install the following Early Release Patch Kit:

The patch kit name: T64KIT0024267-V51BB25-E-20041122.tar

The kit distributes the following files:

/sbin/vdump
/sbin/rvdump
/usr/lib/nls/msg/en_US.ISO8859-1/vdump.cat
