 Advisory Information

RELEASE DATE: 12 September 2005

DESCRIPTION

This Engineering Advisory provides two Early Release Patch (ERP) kits. One ERP kit is for HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-2/PK4 and the other is for HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-3.

The ERP kit for version 5.1B-2/PK4 provides corrections to multiple problems that have been reported with the collect utility. The ERP kit for version 5.1B-2/PK4 provides corrections for:

  • Incorrect CPU/RAD and memory statistics on NUMA systems;
  • A memory leak when run on NUMA systems;
  • A deficiency with the memory subsystem output report format on NUMA systems that causes cfilt/collgui to filter its input incorrectly
  • A condition with the "-W" flushing option that can cause collect to produce invalid data files or die prematurely when running in historical mode
  • A situation related to collect's LSM subsystem that can cause the utility to die when running in historical mode
  • Incorrect disk device names in collect's disk subsystem report when long device names are encountered

In addition to fixes for the above problems, the ERP kit for version 5.1B-2/PK4 provides:

  • The ability for collect to dynamically handle changes to resources such as AdvFS filesystems and disks
  • Improved input validation
  • Improved syslog error logging

The ERP kit for version 5.1B-3 provides a correction to the collect utility for incorrect disk device names in collect's disk subsystem report when long device names are encountered.

Target Audience:
These ERP kits are intended for customers running the collect utility on the Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-2/PK4 or the Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-3 operating systems.

SCOPE

The following versions are affected:

  • HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-3
  • HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-2/PK4

RESOLUTION

HP is releasing the following ERP kits publicly for use by any customer. The ERP kits use dupatch to install and will not install over any Customer Specific Patches (CSPs) that have file intersections with the ERP.

All fixes contained in the 5.1B-2/PK4 ERP kit, except for the correction for the problem when long device names are used, as discussed in "Description", are available in HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-3, which is already shipping. The fix for problem when long device names are used is scheduled to be generally available in the following mainstream patch kit:

HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-4

Early Release Patches

The ERP kits distribute /usr/sbin/collect

The ERP kits are available for the following versions.
