 Advisory Information

LAST UPDATE: 2009-08-05

Fresh installation of Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5/pk7 (BL28) or upgrade to Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5/pk7 (BL28) on a standalone machine, with the root domain configured under LSM, panics the system during the boot. Boot will panic with the following indications after the installation :

vfs_mountroot: re-trying to mount root file system

vfs_mountroot: re-trying to mount root file system

vfs_mountroot: re-trying to mount root file system panic (cpu 0): vfs_mountroot: cannot mount root

Note: This problem does not occur on clusters. Standalones, that do not have root domains under LSM, are also not affected.

The following supported versions are affected:

  • HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5

HP is releasing the following patch kit publicly for use by any customer. The kit uses dupatch to install. Installation of Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5/pk7 or upgrading to Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5/pk7 on standalone systems without this ERP kit is not recommended, if the root domain is configured under LSM.

The kit, in addition to solving the boot problem, also fixes a memory leak problem in LSM code.

The fixes contained in this ERP kit are planned to be made available in the following mainstream patch kit:

HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-6
